We offer a vibrant and friendly atmosphere that ensures everyone has opportunities to play tennis and enjoy their time in the club.
Our extensive facilities make us one of the leading LTA registered venues in the South West.
Players can enjoy different playing surfaces in the club throughout the year (many of our courts are floodlit) including the ability to play in our Indoor Centre.
Our coaching team can help develop new players to help integrate them into the club and get them playing with players of a similar standard as well as arranging contact with established players when ready.
Every Thursday and Saturday the club runs group sessions where members are welcome to join in and meet other members while enjoying one and half hours of doubles tennis.
In addition we run fun events and competitive opportunities for those wishing to join in as well as our annual Club Championships.
The Torbay Open is also an annual event, held in August since 1879 where we welcome players from all over the country to compete in a week long Regional Tour Grade 3 competition. This continue to be one of the largest competitions in the LTA calendar.
Our clubhouse is well equipped and provides a lovely place to have a drink after a game of tennis as well as hosting many of our social evenings, quiz and curry nights as well as birthday parties and corporate events such as our annual Open Day.
The Club Manager and Head Coach, Steve Maslen is on hand to help all members enjoy tennis at the club and to ensure our staff and coaching team provide services to the highest standard.
Club History
Torquay Tennis Club is steeped in history and many of our members have been with us for a long period of years, witnessing many changes to the grounds and courts over time.
Our clubhouse displays photographs showing some of this history but our members are best at providing their own recollections over a friendly chat after a game of tennis.
The club has had the pleasure of some very famous tennis players gracing the courts including Judy, Andy and Jamie Murray, Tim Henman, Sue Barker, Valda Lake, Sarah Gomer, David Lloyd, Lucy Ahl and Mike Sangster to name just a few.
Club Committee
We are a not for not for profit members club as well as being a registered Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC).
Our Committee who are all Directors of the club and are in place to help ensure the club runs smoothly in line with our Articles of Association and Club Rules. The Committee hold voluntary positions to help ensure the club is financially sustainable and that its grounds and facilities continue to provide members and visitors with a positive playing experience and that they and our staff are safe while doing so.

The modern state of the art club house is a sheer delight. It offers a fully licensed bar, changing rooms and toilets, office facilities and an extremely impressive 30 metre patio with glass balcony. The club regularly organises social events for both adults and juniors, birthday parties, curry and quiz evenings and is also available for function hire. Please contact Steve Maslen, Club Manager, on 01803 209500.
The club is extremely proud to offer 5 artificial clay courts which opened in April 2010. These all-weather courts play exactly like the real thing, giving a slower bounce, sliding opportunities and are extremely soft on the feet making them a popular choice all year round.
Our 4 artificial grass courts are adjacent to the clubhouse and are a focal point of the club. The courts play much like a real grass court and are fast with a lower bounce making them a popular choice with many of our members and our performance players.
Our Indoor facility allows tennis to be played no matter what the weather – the courts can be booked through our online booking system – simply click the following link.
What a bonus!!! These 2 mini tennis courts provide hours of entertainment for our little players. A chance to learn the game in a smaller, safe and colourful environment is fantastic. The Mini Tennis Red court size is the starting point for all our top juniors and follows the LTA Mini Tennis structure.
We have a modern, well equipped Licensed Club House that provides a great venue for parties or meetings.
A selection of food is available on request and our staff are always available to provide refreshments.

In addition, we will offer our sponsors the following –
We welcome companies looking to support Torquay Tennis Club by becoming a sponsor.

The club is set up as a not for profit organisation and anyone wanting to make donations or leave legacies to the club is able to do so with the full knowledge that the money will be used to maintain and improve the facilities for the club membership.
In recent times we have benefited from acts of kindness through donations and legacies in many ways including being able to lay cables for indoor CTV and have an outdoor table tennis area built and equipped.
In the past Des Cahill left a legacy which we were able to use to build a hitting wall facility which continues to be popular with members as well as many other generous gifts helping provide the facilities we are able to enjoy today.
Our members are able to participate in our Club’s 250 Draw.
This is a lottery type draw that provides regular cash prizes while also helping the club raise additional funds to maintain the facilities, we are so proud of.
We will use the proceeds from this draw to help with future maintenance and replacement of the Club’s facilities including but not limited to Courts, Floodlights and Indoor Centre.
The draws take place on the last Saturday of each month at the end of our afternoon Social Session for members.
Entry into the draw costs £2.50 per month (maximum of four entries per member applies).
Members wanting to reserve an entry in their name should contact Steve Maslen – manager@torquaytennisclub.co.uk.
We run many different events through the year including Mini Tournaments, Holiday Clubs and Pay and Play sessions.
In addition, we have Club Championships for our members which always prove popular.
These all help ensure our members and our visitors as well as the players on our coaching programme are playing regular competitive tennis.
We also run various LTA events through the year including “Great British Tennis Weekend” which helps introduce new players into the game.
We want to include as many people as possible in our club environment and will continue to offer a range of activities to ensure we help achieve this.
Our largest event is the Torbay Open which runs in August each year – we welcome players from all over the country to take part in this weeklong event and invite them all to a Barbecue evening on the Wednesday evening while play usually continues providing a great atmosphere to compete in.
